This WASH project is part of a larger effort to improve life for the children in Rubuguri, Uganda. Two primary schools, one secondary school, and one church will receive new latrines and rainwater catchment equipment. By focusing on hygiene behavior including improving sanitation facilities (new VIP Pit Latrines), adding rainwater collection systems and handwashing stations, and providing education and training, this initiative will be the starting point for campus improvements that will transcend the campus environment to the home environment. In addition to the work at these four locations, through the project, one hundred Tap Water Filters and four hundred International Bucket Water Filter Systems will be distributed to individual households, schools, and churches in the community to provide access to clean water. Rubuguri is a town located in the mountains of Western Uganda near the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Agriculture and tourism are the primary industries. There are small, family-owned businesses in the town and farms in the surrounding countryside. Some children walk miles to get to school. Subsistence farming takes place on small parcels of family-owned land. Men, women, and children work the farms, most of them live in poverty.
