WASH & Health - this year’s Summit theme - will be held at Marriott’s Delta Hotel in downtown Toronto.  Located at 75 Lower Simcoe Street, the hotel is just steps away from the Toronto Convention Centre – site of this year’s RI Convention.  In fact if it’s raining, you don’t even have to go outside to go from the hotel to the convention.  Here’s a link to the hotel with more information:  Delta Hotel - downtown Toronto

Your Summit Team is putting together an interesting program on themes of relevance for all Rotarians interested in WASH projects.  The morning breakouts will follow two tracks:  WASH & Disease Prevention and WASH & Healthcare Facilities.

  • Applying for a Global Grant
  • Rotarians as advocates

Registration will open early at 7.00 am.  Come and join us for coffee and croissants!  The official program gets underway at 8.30 am and winds up at 5.00 pm.  After that we’ll open the cash bar so you can enjoy discussing the day’s events with our sponsors and fellow registrants.

WASH has a profound impact on the health of developing societies. More than that, it is the key to the social and economic well-being. Every 90 seconds a child dies from water-related disease. 3.5 million people die annually from water-borne disease – cholera, dysentery, diarrhea and typhoid.

Child receives deworming medication often needed due to poor sanitation.Understand the issues in bringing water to Health Facilities where medical staff lack clean water for maternity and child wards. Learn how Rotarians are taking the lead in eradicating water-borne disease such as Guinea worm, the former scourge of Ghana and other African countries.

Here's what we have planned:
  • Multiple breakout sessions focusing on water in health care facilities and water and disease prevention.
  • Breakout speaker Loune Viaud, Partners in Health, Haiti
  • Two opportunities to participate in round-table discussions with topics such as technology/life cycle costing, finding the right project, and monitoring & evaluation
  • Networking opportunities with our sponsors and other passionate Rotarians
In addition, keynote speakers will share their personal insights into the importance of water and health facilities.
